Becton Dickinson 2.6 MW Ground-Mount & Rooftop Solar Arrays

Canaan, CT

The American medical technology company, Becton Dickinson, wanted to implement sustainable measures to their syringe manufacturing facility in Canaan, CT.

They decided to start the first phase of a long-term plan to support plant load through solar energy and reduce burden on the grid.

Conti Solar was contracted by DG Project Construction Company, LLC (Next Era Energy Resources) to engineer, construct and commission a 0.626 MW DC of rooftop section and 2.0358 MW DC of ground mount section at the Becton Dickinson facility.

The client’s goal was to energize and obtain permission to operate both solar arrays by March 31st, 2018. This would allow Becton Dickinson to realize the energy credits which serves them to move towards their goal of renewable generation for their plant load.

Conti Solar was awarded the project in early December 2017 and the site access and construction start date was fixed at early January 2018. The project was built in the thick of the winter conditions in New England and weathered three (3) nor’easters in the span of couple weeks in Early March 2018. Conti Solar had to mobilize quickly to the site, buy all long lead and critical components along with procuring all the major subcontractors on an extremely aggressive timeline.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, Conti Solar was able to finish the project on time.

Despite weathering three nor’easters in a span of couple weeks, Conti was able to complete the project on time.
