The project was awarded to Ben Moreell Solar Farm, LLC as part of the Navy’s energy resiliency initiative in 2015. CS Energy was contracted to design, procure and install the 28.5 MW ground mounted array in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.

This project delivers electricity directly to the grid but with some modifications will also allow the Navy to operate the NWS Earle base from solar in the event of grid outage and directly support Earle’s day to day electric use.

CS Energy worked closely with the Owner and the Navy during the development of the project to ensure project success. This included optimizing layouts and energy models, navigating equipment changes associated with panel availability, interconnection coordination with the Utility, constructability review, and work plans and drawing preparation for submission to the Navy. CS Energy then prepared full construction drawings, procurement of material, construction, and finally testing an operation.

CS Energy’s self-perform crews and electricians were able to build this project in record time. At peak, they were installing over 4,000 panels a day to hit the target completion date. This required careful coordination and pre-planning of the site. A project that was years in the making, was built in approximately 23 weeks once CS Energy started construction.

The 28 MW project is the largest project completed in NJ to date and is a key project to the Navy and for the NJ renewable energy plan which targets 50% of the State’s electricity need is provided by renewable energy by 2020 and 100% by 2050.
